Rita Moreno Insisted Her Husband Was A Wonderful Person

Rita Moreno

Rita Moreno is commonly referred to as “La Pionera” in the Hispanic culture, which is another way of saying “The Pioneer.” But this wasn’t a happy accident.

She has established numerous records for Latinas in the entertainment sector. She was also among the first to call her 45-year marriage to her hubby an “incredible and successful deception,” in the words of the media.

The 45-Year Marriage of Rita Moreno: A Scam?

On June 18, 1965, Moreno wed Dr. Leonard Isadore Gordon. She remained at his side till his passing on June 30, 2010. They have a daughter together named Fernanda Gordon during their relationship.

It wasn’t until she made her latest documentary, Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It, which aired at the Sundance Film Festival in early 2021, that people realized her ostensibly happy marriage was not what it looked. From the outside, it appeared that the couple had figured out the key to a successful marriage. After all, they have successfully maintained their partnership for almost 40 years in a field where marriages seem to last only a few years.

Rita Moreno Disclosed Her Marital Situation

When Moreno revealed in the video that her husband didn’t appreciate her “raucous” laughing and outgoing demeanor, everyone was shocked.

She claimed that he was frequently a “controller” instead. I felt like there was no one left to answer when he passed away. One of the select handful to achieve the coveted EGOT, the actress admitted to USA Today that, had her spouse still been alive, she would not have discussed their relationship in public.

According to Moreno, she would never have discussed her husband in public without getting his permission. She replied categorically, “I couldn’t do that. And he would likely have responded, “What?” Are you crazy?” You can’t do it, She continued by saying that since her marriage was a farce in her eyes, being able to talk about it was “really extremely significant” to her.

Additionally, Moreno acknowledged that it was particularly challenging to shoot her spouse’s interview throughout the documentary’s production.

She claimed Gordon was a decent person. Simply put, their marriage failed, and Moreno didn’t realize how badly she wanted to be alone until it was too late. Before becoming married to Gordon, she had been in a far more destructive relationship.

She talked about her eight-year union with Marlon Brando. She claimed that as soon as he learned she was expecting, he set up her abortion. The procedure did not go as planned, though. She suffered a nearly deadly mistake that left her bleeding for days. She very well may have died.

She struggled to recover from Brando’s emotional abuse and philandering after the production of one of her most well-known roles, West Side Story.

She felt so hopeless that she tried to end her life by taking sleeping tablets. Moreno admitted, “I let him walk all over me and it was embarrassing.” “I didn’t think I deserved to live, so I wanted to murder myself.” She managed to survive and sought professional help. At the interview, she considered herself to be among the best 89-year-olds she knew.
