Sarma ran away from the law. She was accused of grand theft, criminal tax fraud, conspiracy to defraud, and violating labor laws. Sarma and her ex-husband Anthony were taken into custody in Sevierville, Tennessee, on May 12, 2016.
Srarma, however, accepted a plea offer from the prosecution that required her to spend one to three years behind bars. She admitted to stealing more than $200k from an investor in May 2017 and to conspiring to commit fraud and criminal tax fraud.
