Mendes made the cancellation public on his social media accounts on Wednesday, July 27. For the promotion of his most recent album, Wonder, which was released at the end of 2020, Mendes has organized a world tour. The 23-year-old had to cancel his vacation because of the ongoing pandemic at the time.
The tour was originally scheduled to begin on July 9 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and run through August of the following year, but the plans were abandoned.
Mendes gave a brief explanation of why he had to cancel the tour, and many of his supporters agreed with his decision. Many of his followers encouraged him to cancel and said to “take all the time” he required to rest. However, a number of native (local) and foreign fans were unhappy about the cancellation of hotel reservations, travel expenses, and other services.
What did Shawn Mendes have to say regarding the cancellation of the Wonder World Tour?
Recently, Shawn Mendes admitted on social media that he wasn’t ready to handle the pressure of coming back on tour. He declared:
“I started this tour excited to return to live performance after a long break caused by the pandemic, but I was totally unprepared for how difficult traveling would be after such a protracted break. It has been clear to me after talking to my team and working with an excellent group of health experts that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally to ground myself and come back stronger.
Further, Shawn Mendes stated that he intended to “continue with the remaining dates after some much-deserved downtime.” All of Mendes’ tour dates through August 1, 2023, nevertheless, are now shown as canceled on his official website. Additionally, it is unknown if Mendes will extend the Wonder tour into a future year.
In a statement to his fans, Shawn Mendes emphasized that he would keep writing music while on hiatus from touring. This increases the likelihood that the Wonder tour won’t happen because Mendes might instead embark on a world tour to support his forthcoming album. Given that Wonder would be older than two years if Wonder waited until 2023 to announce new tour dates, the notion is plausible, but it should still be regarded as pure speculation.
“…I have to put my health first at this stage of my life. This doesn’t imply that I won’t continue to write music, and I’d still like to take you all on tour. The news that I won’t be returning until I’ve had enough time to recover breaks my heart since I know how long you’ve all been wanting to see these shows. I adore you all and am appreciative of your love and assistance on this journey.
When Shawn Mendes postponed tour dates because of mental health difficulties, fans applauded him.
Mendes received a ton of love and support from his followers on all social media platforms where the singer posted the comment, as was already mentioned.
The vast majority of responses showed that his followers were concerned more about his welfare than their own. They assured him that putting his mental health first was perfectly acceptable. While the majority of people praised Shawn Mendes’ decision, some questioned if he should refund the ticket price.
Many of his fliers may not receive appropriate compensation for their hotel and travel expenses. Mendes’ record label Island Records’ official website has not yet made any refund policies available. It will be fascinating to see how the artist responds to this situation.
