In the YA program, Lycurgo will play Nathan Byrn, the world’s most dangerous witch Marcus Edge’s illegitimate son. The eight one-hour episodes of the show will debut on Netflix on Friday at 3 a.m. ET (or at midnight PT). It’s safe to assume that all of the episodes will be available for viewing on Friday because Netflix typically publishes episodes in large quantities.

The official summary of The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself reads as follows:

Easy way to win money online (1)

The son of a notorious witch who committed a horrific massacre finds his place in the world as well as his powers while caught between two warring tribes.

The protagonist of The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself is Nathan, an illegitimate child of a White witch (an oppressive majority culture) and a Black man (a minority written off as evil). After his mother is killed, Nathan is referred to as Half Code and is under constant scrutiny by the Council of White Witches due to his Black blood.

The Devil and His Bastard Son

Nathan is placed under the direct custody of the Council of White Witches and given Celia as a new guardian after breaking one of their rules.

The rest of the story is around Nathan escaping Celia’s oppressive rule and getting in touch with his father, Marcus Edge, who is supposedly the most dangerous witch in the world. The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself’s source material, which was intended to be a movie, was a big success.

The first installment of the trilogy, Half Bad, which was once going to be a feature picture, was published in 2014. It was produced by Karen Rosenfelt, who is well recognized for her work on The Twilight Saga and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.

The undertaking was never completed, though, until Netflix revealed in 2020 that it will create a TV show based on the Half-Bad trilogy.

In the categories of “Most Translated Book by a Debut Author, Pre-publication” and “Most Translated Children’s Book by a Debut Author, Pre-publication,” Half Bad established two Guinness World Records. The book received a lot of interest, and the foreign rights were rapidly sold.

The book also received the 2015 Waterstones Teen Book Prize and was a finalist for the renowned Branford Boase Award. Half Wild and Half Lost, two of its successors, will almost definitely both be adapted by Netflix. However, The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself’s performance and reception will be important.

Executive producers on the project are Joe Barton, Andy Serkis, Jonathan Cavendish, and Will Tennant. The show is co-produced by Serkis’ Imaginarium Productions. The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself also features key roles for Isobel Jesper Jones, Karen Connell, Paul Ready, David Gyasi, Kerry Fox, Fehinti Balogun, Misia Butler, Liz White, and Róisn Murphy in addition to Lycurgo, Parkes, and Vekemans.
