Tom Street, A Member Of A Brass Band, Aged 95, Sets A New World Record

Tom Street

Tom Street of Heage, Derbyshire, has been recognized as the oldest active member of a brass band at the age of 95. A 95-year-old man has been recognized for his lifelong dedication to music by being named a Guinness world record holder for playing the cornet.

On Sunday, Mr. Street, a Heage Silver Band member for 82 years, was honored by his grandson Louis, 21. He thought it was “a joy” to be in a brass band.

Tom Street stated he got his first cornet when he was five years old and joined the band when he was fourteen.

He had been led to believe that he was going on a pub outing prior to being shown to the band’s private quarters, where he was presented with the record-breaking honor.

“I was wondering what the big deal was,” Mr. Street remarked.

As I looked around, I noticed a lot of familiar faces. I’ve kept a set of these and played with it for years.

‘What words can’t say, music can say

Louis recalled his grandfather’s deep appreciation for music that he stated began in early life.

Two or three times a week, “it’s been his life,” he said.

When I was two, he gave me a cornet. ‘Music can describe what words can’t,’ he remarked.

It’s been an incredible effort, but without him, the band probably wouldn’t be together today.
