Vietnam Bans “The Roundup,” An Action Comedy Movie

The Roundup

Vietnam has outlawed The Roundup, a South Korean popular movie starring Eternals actor Ma Dong-seok. The widely awaited sequel to the 2017 movie The Outlaws, the action comedy, has generated enthusiasm around the world. However, because the movie depicts extreme violence, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Vietnam has declined to release it.

The Roundup’s evaluation with Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism’s Film Bureau was sought by Lotte Entertainment, which is in response to the movie’s international distribution. Unfortunately, this did not go well for the movie.

The Korea Herald cited a corporate spokeswoman as saying:

The Roundup has been banned in Vietnam because it features too many graphic pictures. There are several harsh action-packed scenes in Ma Dong-film Seok.

While several viewers praised the film’s brutality and the superb on-screen execution of its action sequences as a major appeal, the Vietnam censor board reportedly expressed worry about the same.

The image of Ho Chi Minh as a lawless city may have had an impact on the decision, an unnamed film industry expert told The Korea Herald.

In Korea, The Roundup made over $20 million in its opening weekend. The “beast policeman” from Train to Busan, Dong-Seok Ma of Ma Seok-do, made a triumphant comeback.

Along with his junior coworkers, he took a flight to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to extradite a Korean suspect. He became involved in the city-wide search for the psychopath behind the several Korean residents of Vietnam who had vanished.

The sequel has established itself as an example of a successful follow-up to a hugely popular game and has garnered praise for its remarkable performances. The movie made $21.1 million in its first week in Korea, according to Variety.

Additionally, it was the first national film in three years to sell over 10 million tickets. Additionally, it was the first movie in Korea to reach a million viewers so quickly after the outbreak started.

According to KOBIS, the Korean Film Council’s (Kofi) tracking service, The Roundup has earned more than $98 million and sold over 12 million tickets as of this writing.
