Who hasn’t heard of Viggo Mortensen? He received widespread appreciation for his superb performance (as the lead character) in the epic trilogy ‘The Lord of the Rings.’
‘LOTR’ is still regarded as one of the most amazing films ever made, and the fandom continues to grow. As a result, the trilogy’s stars, including Mortensen, are revered and celebrated to this day.
But one allegation that never seems to go away is Mortensen’s homosexuality. Yes, it’s been going on for a while, and perhaps we’ll be able to lay it to rest today.
Is Viggo Mortensen a gay man?
Mortensen is best known for his work on ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ although his professional achievements are many. The American actor has been nominated for several awards, including the Screen Actors Guild Award, the BAFTA Award, and the Golden Globe Award.
He is well-known for his parts in films such as ‘The Indian Runner,’ ‘A Perfect Murder,’ ‘A Walk on the Moon,’ and ’28 Days.’
To top it all off, Mortensen is gay. Sorry for throwing it in there at random, but it’s the truth.
For nearly a decade, he was married to his ex-wife, Exene Cervenka. As if that wasn’t enough, he also has a wife named Ariadna Gil, with whom he has been married since 2009.
And, for all we know, that relationship could persist for years and years. As a father to one child with his ex-wife, he has kept his content life private, away from the spotlight, while remaining active in the industry.
He appeared as a director, producer, writer, and music composer in the 2020 film ‘Falling.’ That’s a lot on its own, let alone the two films he’s working on in post-production.
As for the notion, we believe it sprang from his gay role in his debut directorial effort, ‘Falling.’
More Information on His Role
He portrayed a gay man named John Peterson, and he seemed to be proud of his representation, at least we are! While many people praised him for taking on the LGBT role, there was some criticism as well.
It doesn’t matter to Viggo, because he doesn’t regret being a part of it. Look, these are the times we live in, and I believe it is healthy for those topics to be raised.
The short explanation is that I did not consider it a problem. He mentioned this while discussing his role in the film and why he opted to undertake it.
He went on to say,
“And then people ask me, ‘What about Terry Chen, who plays my husband in the film? Is he gay?’
And the answer is I don’t know, and I would never have the audacity to question someone during the casting process whether they were.”
Then he added a remark in which he stated unequivocally that it is not anyone’s place to presume whether someone is gay or straight, saying,
And how can you know what I’m going through?
You’re presuming I’m totally straight.
Perhaps I am, perhaps I am not.
And, frankly, it’s none of your concern.
That was one simple response. And, while we keep our feelings to ourselves, we still believe he is straight, but what do you know, you heard what the man said?
Nonetheless, it will never, if ever, overshadow the reality that Viggo Mortensen is a gifted actor with a charming personality. So, it doesn’t matter, peeps, as long as you get to love who you love!
