Hovland began playing non-professionally as an amateur and progressed to low amateur status while demonstrating his presence in the 2019 Masters Tournament. With his accomplishments, he climbed to the top of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Due to his performance at the 2019 U.S. Open, he ended the next game in 12th place and with an amateur score of 280. He became the first player since Matt Kuchar in 1998 to be named low amateur at both the Masters and the US Open in the same season.
Hovland began playing professionally after competing in the 2019 US Open. He began his professional career by competing in the Travelers Championship 2019. He solidified his spot into the 2019 Open Championship with his play. In August 2019, he tied for second place at the Albertsons Boise Open and went on to compete in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals. In February 2020, Hovland became the first Norwegian to win on the PGA Tour, while also earning the Puerto Rico Open championship. Hovland became the first Norwegian to win on the European Tour in June 2021, when he won the BMW International Open.

However, he was not alone while posing for the photographs.
