We Have a Ghost will be available on Netflix at 3 a.m. ET on Friday, February 24, 2023. Marty Bowen and Dan Halsted, under the banners of Legendary Entertainment and Temple Hill Entertainment, produced the 127-minute family drama.
Among the cast members of We Have a Ghost are David Harbour, Anthony Mackie, Tig Notaro, and Jennifer Coolidge, among many others. In 2023, this will be David Harbour and Anthony Mackie’s first major film. Meanwhile, this is Coolidge’s second film, following Shotgun Wedding, in which she played the mother to Josh Duhamel’s Tom Fowler.
We Have a Spirit will be directed by Christopher Landon, best known for his work on the horror films Happy Death Day and its sequel, as well as Freaky. The upcoming comedy-drama is based on a short story published in 2017.

Filming on the upcoming film is said to have begun in July 2021 in Louisiana, with principal photography beginning a month later. However, due to Hurricane Ida’s impact in Louisiana, the plan was halted a few weeks later. After things had returned to normal in October 2021, the actors and crew traveled to Donaldsonville and New Orleans, Louisiana, for filming.
They completed the filming in just one month. We Have a Spirit was shot in Ascension Parish, at the Lemann Memorial Center at 1100 Clay Street, on Railroad Avenue, and in the vicinity of Mississippi Street. All of these locations can be found in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. They set up camp in New Orleans to film several key sequences both inside and outside.
What should we expect from the upcoming family horror comedy?
As previously stated, the film was inspired by a short story. Ernest was written by Geoff Manaugh, a Los Angeles-based independent journalist, and was published by VICE in October 2017. Landon’s Ernest is “a really new spin on a ghost story and something that I hadn’t really seen before.”
He continued, saying that We Have a Spirit is about a troubled family who moves into a cursed house. Instead of being scared of the apparition, they “double down” and create a YouTube account, making the family famous on the internet.
Meanwhile, the synopsis states:
“After finding that their new house is plagued by a spirit called Ernest, Kevin establishes a YouTube account and makes the ghost and his family Internet-famous. When Kevin and Ernest start learning the truth about Ernest’s past, they become a CIA target.”
The same can be seen in the teaser for We Have a Presence, which was released last month. The CIA section, led by Tig Notaro’s government operative Dr. Leslie Monroe, was shown less. Harbour’s no-dialog performance as the spirit and his strange relationship with Kevin, a student, were undoubtedly standout performances.
Isabella Russo, Faith Ford, Erica Ash, Niles Fitch, and Steve Coulter round out the cast. We Have a Spirit will be released on Netflix on February 24, 2023.
