Rugby Player Killed in Bridgwater Crash

Luke Hawkes, the driver who acknowledged culpability for the death of the renowned Bridgwater women’s rugby player in an accident last month, now faces imprisonment.

Luke Hawkes, 29, of Wadham Close, Bridgwater, pleaded guilty at Taunton Crown Court to negligently killing Bethany Branson.

In addition, he confessed that he did not provide a breath sample following the incident at the A38 crossing in Bridgwater on November 9 at approximately 9:50 p.m. In the coming months, he will be sentenced after being incarcerated.

Bethany, a 19-year-old athlete for Bridgwater and Albion RFC, was in a white Citroen with a companion when a four-car collision occurred.

She perished immediately. Following the incident, a second person was apprehended. He was subsequently released while the circumstances are investigated.
