Cade McNamara is blessed with supportive parents who routinely attend his games and cheer him on from the stands. Cade’s father, a former baseball player, encouraged his son to follow in his footsteps, but he did not pressure him when he picked football.
Cade McNamara began his football career at Damonte Ranch High School in 2015. During his four years at Damonte, McNamara set Nevada school football records with 12,804 throwing yards and 146 touchdown passes. His outstanding play earned him the title of Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year in both 2017 and 2018.
McNamara was committed to Notre Dame before transferring to the University of Michigan. The quarterback started 21 games for the Wolverines before being transferred to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Unfortunately, owing to a season-ending knee injury, his 2023 season was cut short.

Cade McNamara, the quarterback for the Iowa Hawkeyes, was born on May 28, 2000, to Gary and Nicole McNamara. Kyle and Jake, his two brothers, also played football at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

Despite Gary’s extensive baseball expertise, he admitted to having a poor comprehension of football and had first pushed Cade to follow in his baseball footsteps. Cade’s athletic career began with baseball, where he excelled as an infielder and pitcher. Cade changed his focus to football after his freshman year of high school, a decision that deeply hurt his father.
“Brutal,” Gary called it. “I stopped coaching after that season.”

Nicole, the McNamara family’s rock, also brought her collegiate basketball experience to the table. Nicole emphasized the voluntary sacrifices her children made for their craft, recognizing the dedication required to flourish in athletics.
She recalls missing prom because of skills camps, noting that their devotion sprang from their natural drive to achieve in football, not from strict parental supervision. This dedication to their excitement is still a driving force in the McNamara household.
