A. Gwen Shamblin On February 18, 1955, Lara entered this world. Her birthplace was Memphis, TN. Therefore, she had a Religious upbringing. Similarly, she attended UT.
She continued her education, enrolling at Memphis State to earn her master’s degree. Joe Lara’s wife and five others perished when their private aircraft crashed into a lake near Nashville.
The plane was en route to the city’s international airport as a consequence. It crashed into Smyrna, Tennessee’s Percy Priest Lake. Approximately 12 miles east of Nashville was where we found it. She lived to be 66 years old before she passed away on May 29, 2021.

A. Gwen Shamblin Gwen Lara’s weight had always been a stumbling block in her professional life. She founded Weigh Down Studio in 1986.
This weight reduction plan does not involve any sort of diet, exercise, measuring, or counting calories. When she was in graduate school, she developed the Weigh Down Program. Because of this, she conducted the initial class meeting at a therapy center located in a Memphis, Tennessee shopping center.
The course was also delivered to smaller groups outside of a church setting, in settings such as stores. When she was in her twenties, she took over hospitality duties at Bellevue Baptist Church.
A 12-week course was offered, with Lara appearing on video and audio CDs to help direct the learning process. By 1994, about 600 churches across 35 states had made the course available to their members.
In addition, by July 1996, the number of participating churches had increased to around 5,000. In December 1996, approximately 8 churches across the United Kingdom hosted workshops.
It’s worth noting that some Americans held meetings in their houses. In 1996, Weigh Down Workshop expanded to hire 40 people. Furthermore, it has made Franklin, Tennessee its home base.
Over 250,000 people from all over the globe had attended the workshop’s over 21,000 classes by August 1998. The United States, Canada, and Europe were all represented in the classrooms. To add insult to injury, she was criticized for identifying as a Christian.
