Before her audition for American Idol, Marybeth Byrd’s experience on The Voice is scrutinized

Marybeth Byrd, a potential American Idol competitor, has already appeared on television and in another singing reality show. She competed on NBC’s The Voice season 17 in 2019 and made it to the Top 8 on John Legend’s team. She sang Angel from Montgomery at her blind audition and turned all four chairs, but she ultimately chose to join Legend’s squad.

The Top 13 were asked to donate a song to someone who had influenced them throughout the show, and the next season 21 vocalist dedicated a song to her late grandfather, who died the day before her blind auditions. In the show, she revealed that the song she chose, Go Rest High on that Mountain, was one she and her grandfather used to sing together. Despite her grief, her coach encouraged her to incorporate it into her performance, which she did.

She stated, ”

“I can’t think of a better way to honor his memory than to carry out his wishes from the day I was born. On Monday, I’m confident he’ll have the best seat in the house.”

She continued, saying:

“I wouldn’t be on The Voice if he hadn’t shown me his passion for music. It’s heartbreaking to lose someone who was such a bright light.”

The judges praised her performance, and Blake Shelton said it reminded him of his late father, and he knew exactly how she felt trying to get through it. He went on to say that he can’t always listen to the same music because it upsets him. According to John Legend, by revealing her sadness, she allowed the nation to see the aspects of her that made her who she is, and that her grandfather inspired her to become a singer and artist.
