A day before his 63rd birthday, an Arkansas man was fatally shot in Louisiana on Saturday morning while attempting to protect his wife from a carjacking, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened at the Red Roof Plus on Puma Drive in Hammond, said Chief Jimmy Travis. Ladarrius Evans, 18, of Hammond was detained for the murder of the guy from Arkansas later that day. The family of Paul Holt, who unfortunately passed away while on vacation in Louisiana, has found some solace in Evans’ quick arrest.

A 62-year-old tourist from Arkansas named Paul Holt was tragically shot and murdered in Hammond, Louisiana, during an alleged carjacking. To mark his impending 63rd birthday, Holt and his wife had flown to Louisiana. When an armed, masked guy described as Ladarrius Evans, 18, approached Holt and his wife, they were getting into their car.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) said that Holt tried to stop Evans from leaving with his wife in the backseat and assisted Evans’ wife in escaping. Holt, who was unarmed and sped away in the couple’s SUV, was shot by Evans. Holt passed away from his wounds at a nearby hospital. The terrible episode serves as a warning of the risks associated with violent crime and the need of exercising caution in public areas.

Ladarrius Evans was taken into custody on suspicion of murder as well as other offenses. On May 6, deputies from Tangipahoa Parish arrested Ladarrius Evans as a suspect in the fatal shooting of Arkansas visitor Paul Holt during an alleged carjacking.
Later on that day, the deputies discovered the stolen car. Along with the clothes and other tools of the crime, they discovered Evans in possession of other victim-related things.
A “Ghost Gun” with a Glock Switch was one of the things found. Evans was detained and accused of multiple crimes, including carjacking, first-degree murder, having unregistered guns, armed robbery with a handgun, and having a machine gun. Then, while awaiting trial, he was lodged in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
Observations of the Authorities
According to the sheriff’s office, Paul Holt and his wife were shot by Ladarrius Evans after being forced into their vehicle. The TPSO said that Holt and his wife had gone to Louisiana to celebrate Holt’s birthday. Holt attempted to prevent Evans from taking his wife’s car and managed to assist his wife in escaping, but was shot in the chest by Evans.
Evans escaped the scene in the automobile that had been taken. Due to the wounds he received in the shooting, Holt eventually passed away in the hospital. After finding the stolen car, the authorities named Evans as a suspect after discovering that he had both the victim’s goods and the tools of the crime.
