The winner of Strictly Come Dancing, Hamza Yassin, acknowledged his previous university for assistance with dyslexia.
The CBeebies host returned to Bangor University to deliver a lecture for the first time since winning the glitterball trophy the previous year.
Hamza stated that views regarding his severe dyslexia enabled him to earn a degree in zoology.
“They did not even perceive it as an obstacle. It was just, “Alright, you have dyslexia; we can assist you with this,” he said.
Last summer, Hamza, a camera operator who spent the previous two years working on David Attenborough’s Wild Isles series, was awarded an honorary master’s degree by Bangor University.
Every year, he returns to Bangor and instructs second-year conservation practice students.
In an interview with BBC Radio Wales Morning, he stated that he would speak to pupils about how he became a wildlife filmmaker, as there is no fixed path to becoming a camera operator in the natural history department.
“It’s simply little bits of knowledge about what I did to get to where I am now,” he explained. “It demonstrates to the kids an alumnus who followed his passion and is performing the work he loves”
Hamza Yassin, who migrated to Northampton at age eight from Sudan, stated that he “fell in love” with the natural world in Bangor.
Snowdonia is around 10 miles distant, and Anglesey is direct across the Menai Channel.
“There are whales and dolphins everywhere at South Stack. It was the ideal university to attend if you wanted to study marine biology or zoology.
“It’s a privilege to be able to speak to others about my passion for the natural world and why we must protect it,” he said.
