Overview of Lupe Martinez

In the 1980s and 1990s, Lupe—who was born in 1953—became well-known as the frontman of the Los Cadetes de Linares band. The musical fervor of Guadalupe Tijerina’s cousin was brought to numerous locations in Mexico and, more specifically, in the United States, where he lived. He shared the stage with musical acts like Los Tigres del Norte. He was best known for being a part of the band Los Cadetes de Linares, which was featured in several Mexican movies.

In 1960, Homero Guerrero established Los Cadetes de Linares in Linares, Nuevo Leon. They initially played at festivals, family reunions, and educational institutions. Adan Moreno, an accordionist, joined them in 1961, and they began giving performances in Linares. Samuel Zapata joined the group in 1967 when Moreno left, and Candelario Villareal joined in 1968.

Lupe recorded Los Dos Amigos with Guerrero in 1974 after joining the group. While on tour in places like Chicago and Los Angeles, the band played several singles.

When Guerrero passed away in February 1982, Rosendo Cantu succeeded him as a bandleader, and the group kept performing. The band afterward broke up. Martinez is survived by relatives, some of whose names are unknown.
