The Playlist is one of these shows that offers viewers a multidimensional viewing experience. Petra Hansson’s (Gizem Erdogan) backstory is one of the most intriguing on the show, as she was largely responsible for securing Spotify’s contracts.

Petra Hansson was a prominent legal figure at Spotify and an executive there. She worked with the music streaming service for nearly a decade, and as a result of her experience, she was instrumental in achieving a number of significant milestones.

As demonstrated in The Playlist, nothing is known about Petra Hansson previous to her association with Spotify.

In Episode 3 of the Netflix miniseries The Legal, Hansson is presented as a rising attorney at a large Scandinavian law company. In reality, Petra Hansson was a promising employee at Mannheimer Swartling, the largest legal firm in Sweden.

A year before Spotify’s launch, Hansson was in high demand, and she joined the company as legal counsel and agent. She later represented the then-nascent streaming service in its interactions with major music labels and companies, as shown properly in The Playlist.

Hansson accompanied Niklas Ivarsson on all legal matters, but she also came up with a solution that benefited Spotify’s expansion.

While Spotify’s founder, Daniel Ek, was tempted to make the service free to everyone, Hansson was able to spot the flaws. Eventually, she established a long-term viability-guaranteeing plan.

As depicted in The Playlist, Petra Hansson was important in the conception of Spotify Premium, an ad-free streaming service.

She also played a significant part in Spotify’s global success by negotiating with other legal specialists to assist the company in establishing its presence in the United States.

In 2009, Hansson struck a deal with Warner Music Group’s then-CEO, Edgar Bronfman Jr., to make Warner’s entire music catalog available on Spotify in Europe.

Where is Petra Hansson now?

The Playlist only follows her through the introduction of Spotify. Her responsibilities ranged from General Counsel to Head of Business Affairs as her association with the company evolved over time.

Hansson and Spotify finally broke up in 2017, putting an end to their decade-long engagement. She served as a consultant and investor for a variety of businesses and non-profits after her leave.

In February of 2019, Hansson and Spotify’s former Global Head of Licensing, Niklas Ivarsson, joined the advisory board of Stockholm-based sample licensing company Tracklib.

The chief executive officer of Tracklib, Par Almqvist, lauded her contributions and efforts in assisting the company with its legal and commercial challenges in 2020.

After then, Petra Hansson has led a private life, and nothing is known about her activities post-Tracklib. Her precise location is unknown, however, it is believed she resides in the Greater Stockholm Metropolitan Region in Sweden. She is inactive across all social media platforms.
