We’re going to dive into the world of The Blacklist to find out who Nik the doctor is on The Blacklist and what happened to him.
The Bones Bag
This season’s main mystery revolves around a suitcase containing skeletal remains. We know it has some connection to Red, and the most popular theory is that it contains the remains of Liz’s mother — but this has yet to be confirmed. That is one of the reasons Tom wants to know who is involved in the case. This leads us to Dr. Nik.
Dr. Nik Korpal: Who Was He?
Nik Korpal first appeared on the show in season two. Dr. Nik frequently felt like a good guy who was forced to assist in some unethical situations and did what he had to but hated every minute of it. He’s currently assisting Tom in identifying the bones in the suitcase, but he’s hit a snag. When we last saw Dr. Nik, he was assisting Red and Liz with a heart transplant that was not legal and was performed under the most adverse conditions possible. Red stated that he owed Dr. Nik money, which he asked Red to repay by never contacting him again. Dr. Nik goes to check on Pete’s progress near the end of the episode. As he approaches a computer, a masked man strangles him from behind. The masked man selects the bag of bones and leaves.
Is Dr. Nik Gone?
While The Blacklist has been a show full of twists and turns, with characters faking their deaths, we are fairly certain that Dr. Nik has met his end.
Apart from the fact that his death has been mentioned by other characters, we saw Liz tear up during his funeral in the previous episode.
A recent preview for the latest episode shows Red talking to Tom and mentioning Dr. Nik’s death as a result of the suitcase. Peter Marek, who played Nik on The Blacklist, has already appeared in guest roles on other TV shows, indicating that he is unlikely to return.
Who assassinated Dr. Nik?
We now have yet another mystery to solve. Who assassinated Dr. Nik? Pete is the obvious suspect, but given the show’s history, it seems far too obvious. According to the preview for tonight’s episode, Red not only knows about the murder but also why it occurred and warns/threatens Tom with this knowledge. If Red did not order the murder himself, he likely knows who did.
We can’t be certain, but we believe this particular mystery will not last long. We wouldn’t be surprised if the identity of the murderer or the person in possession of the suitcase is revealed soon. But what that person’s ultimate goal might be is anyone’s guess. It’s all part of what makes The Blacklist so entertaining to watch!
