Starz is about to delve into the most recent iteration of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ 1782 epistolary classic Dangerous Liaisons with its ongoing series of the same name.

The story has been adapted numerous times, including in Stephen Frears’ famous 1988 film starring John Malkovich and Glenn Close. Harriet Warner’s Starz adaptation will breathe new life into the story.
The television show will follow a tale of vengeance, passion, and destruction that takes place in pre-revolutionary French high society and features toxic arguments between two loves that result in the deaths of numerous people all around Paris.
The storyline is a well-known tale of morality and corruption, with continually dishonest romantic relationships serving as the backdrop.
According to the teaser for Dangerous Liaisons, the story will take center stage, much like in the 1999 movie adaptation of Roger Kumble’s novel Cruel Intentions. On Sunday, November 6, at 8 p.m. EST, the Starz network will broadcast the premiere episode, titled Love and War.
Dangerous Liaisons’ first season’s trailer debuted on Starz about two months ago. The trailer introduced Camille (Alice Englert) and Pascal Valmont, the couple (Nicholas Denton).
The video shows the cruel poison that festers between the lovers as they struggle to give in to their affection for one another, leading them to do terrible things and break many people’s hearts.
The portrayal of Valmont suggests that he exudes an air of deceit. He is shown to have a lot of secrets as well. These unknowns would ultimately trigger a cascade that would result in the deaths of numerous people. The show’s synopsis, as given by Starz, is as follows:
With a focus on how his renowned protagonists, the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, first met as passionate young lovers in Paris on the eve of the revolution, “Dangerous Liaison is a bold prequel to Laclos’ famed 18th-century book.
The audience is transported to pre-revolutionary Paris in this modern rendition of a classic story, where they will encounter awe and dread, beauty and depravity, seduction and treachery.
The young couple’s ability to attract and control not just the French nobility but also each other is essential to their continued existence.
They are motivated by a desire to atone for the wrongs of their past. The notorious lovers are portrayed by actors Alice Englert and Nicholas Denton.
They are Valmont, who will do anything to regain his title after it was recently taken from him, and Camille, who is adopted by the current Marquise de Merteuil (played by Lesley Manville) and forges her path in a world of men. The on-again, off-again nature of their relationship is the focus of the series. War is what it is—not love.
Perilous Relationships
Carice van Houten, Michael McElhatton, Nathanael Saleh, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, and Paloma Faith all play supporting characters. Kosar Ali also makes an appearance. Before its debut on November 6, 2022, the second season of Dangerous Liaisons has already been renewed.
For a new TV series, this is an unusual event. There will be eight episodes in the first season of Dangerous Liaisons. The Starz network will premiere the first episode at 8 p.m. EST.
