Edgardo moved to Saint-Etienne in 2014 and started working in the restaurant industry. He acquired ownership of the Italian eatery Caffe Rossini Ristorante in 2021.
He ran the eatery till November of the same year. He worked under the name Paolo Dimitrio in other Italian restaurants in the city, according to papers obtained by Agence France-Presse.
A local news source purportedly highlighted the Caffe Rossini Ristorante’s launch in 2021, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. However, it now seems that the account has been removed.
Greco also employed a fictitious identity while working evenings at a pizzeria.
The prosecution asserts that following the mafia boss’s early-morning detention, the investigating magistrate in Lyon formally notified him of Italy’s arrest order. He is now in custody.
Investigators from Italy and France obtained help from Interpol’s collaboration against “The Ndrangheta project” (I-Can), which fosters police cooperation among its 195 member states, to apprehend Greco.
The carabinieri led investigators to Saint-Etienne by tracking Greco’s network of sympathizers, according to the military police of Italy. The convicted murderer evaded Interpol and the French Police, who dispatched Italian Police to make the arrest.
