Dakota Johnson is most known for portraying Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey film trilogy. She began her career in 1999 when she co-starred with her mother in the dark comedy Crazy in Alabama. She appeared in bit parts in Goats, 21 Jump Street, and The Five-Year Engagement in 2012.
Johnson had her big break in Fifty Shades of Grey, and when the final installment aired in 2018, she made appearances in Wounds, The Peanut Butter Falcon, and Bad Times at the El Royale.

The parents of Dakota got divorced in 1976, got remarried in 1989, and got divorced once more in 1996. Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, the parents of Johnson, first became friends in 1972 when he was 22 and she was 15.
Don had two divorced marriages at the time, one to a dancer and the other to a “wealthy bimbo.” Melanie and Don started dating, and she later moved in with him. In 1976, when Griffith became 18, they became engaged, and they later wed. The union between the two only lasted six months.
In 1981, Melanie moved on and wed Steven Bauer, but they later divorced. In 1988, Don and Griffith met up again and became engaged. Dakota said on a sketch comedy show that she thinks she was conceived at the time the pair got engaged. She remarked:
“Right after the performance, my father dropped down on one knee and asked her out again… I was born precisely nine months later.
Don and Melanie were previously divorced in 1989 and again in 1996. Don married Kelley Phleger in 1999, while Griffith wed Antonio Banderas in 1996. Although Antonio and Griffith separated in 2015, he still has a close bond with Dakota. As she handed Antonio a trophy at the Hollywood Film Awards, Johnson showered him with compliments. As Dakota said:
“I was fortunate to come from a family with several marriages. I received a bonus father, who I later realized was actually one of the most significant people in my entire life. My mother married a man when I was six years old, and he opened me to a whole new world of creativity and culture.
Due to Dakota’s parents’ demanding careers, her childhood suffered
Hollywood heavyweights Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith are both. Griffith received an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe award for her depiction of Working Girl. She has acted in movies like Body Double, Crazy in Alabama, and Shining Through. Don received a Golden Globe nomination for Miami Vice in the 1980s.
Due to their jobs, the couple had to move around a lot, which hurt Dakota. She began therapy at the age of 3 and changed schools frequently, which caused her to lose many friends. Then, Don and Melanie’s separation and their widely reported drug usage issues had to be dealt with by Dakota. She stated to Vogue:
“As a child, I never learned how to learn the way you should. I questioned why I had to arrive at school on time. What’s the point when you spend six months living in Budapest while your stepdad films Evita and you attend classes in a hotel room? I was a mess, and for a very long time, I believed that there was a mental health issue. Now I see that it simply functions differently.
Dakota’s parents are not likely to watch Fifty Shades of Grey
Dakota’s parents advised her against beginning her acting career before graduating from high school. After graduating from high school, Dakota tried out for jobs in Los Angeles but was rejected by the prestigious Juilliard School in New York. She was keen to follow in her mother’s footsteps, and when she was selected as Miss Golden Globe in 2006, she made another step in that direction.
1975’s Miss Golden Globe was her mother. Even though her parents are supportive of her professional decision, Dakota got her big break in Fifty Shades of Grey, and it’s unlikely that they will watch the movies. She stated to Glamour:
“It’s one thing if a movie has one explicit moment in it, but with this, a lot of the plot revolves around the development of their sexual relationship, and I believe that’s a little improper for my family to watch.”
