Specialized investigators searched through the wreckage of the two helicopters that collided above the Gold Coast to dig for clues about the disaster, which claimed the lives of four individuals.

The two Sea World Helicopters-operated helicopters crashed on New Year’s Day while performing joy flights over the Broadwater near the theme park.

To determine what caused the crash, workers from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) are presently looking at the debris, watching video of the collision, and consulting with witnesses and operators.

Videos of the mid-air crash between two helicopters on the Gold Coast have taken over Reddit in droves.

The two helicopters collided in midair on Monday at roughly 2:00 pm, although the precise reason for the collision is still unknown, according to ATSB Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell.

According to him, a helicopter with seven people on board was taking off at the time of the disaster, and a helicopter with six people on board was making a landing. The primary rotors of the landing helicopter struck the jet lifting it off, and causing “considerable damage” to the front area of the helicopter.

The primary rotor blades and gearbox of the rising aircraft broke apart as a result, and the aircraft fell onto the sandbar.

The second aircraft had a surprising capacity to land upright, said Mr. Mitchell. Takeoff and landing are the essential flight phases where pilots’ cognitive burden is greatest, according to the ATSB.

The crash claimed the lives of four persons and the helicopter’s pilot, who was about to take off. They were ages 36, 40, 57, and 65.

In the collision, Sea World Helicopters’ pilot Ashley Jenkinson died. Friends have referred to him as a “true legend” who helped transport food and rescue residents who became trapped due to flooding in the Northern Rivers. The two adults were reportedly British citizens, at least in part. The second victim is from Glenmore Park, New South Wales.

According to Queensland Police Acting Inspector Mike Campbell, one of the victims was linked to one of the survivors. A mother and son as well as another youngster were among the three additional victims who suffered critical wounds, according to the police.

The gravely injured victims included 33-year-old Winnie De Silva of Geelong and her 9-year-old son, in addition to a 10-year-old kid from New South Wales. Three of them are still receiving medical care.

Mr. Mitchell claims that the ATSB is compiling all the data and information it can, including eyewitness reports, helicopter vision footage, and footage from the passenger cameras.
