To Eritrean parents, Rubi Rose was born in Lexington, Kentucky. She spent some time with her mother’s relatives in Geneva, Switzerland, before moving back to the US. Rose’s family relocated to Atlanta during her junior year of high school from Lexington. Rubi experienced a culture shock because she wasn’t accustomed to Atlanta’s metropolitan way of life.
