Sergio Aguero and Xavi both denied reports that the striker had to retire due to a heart condition, but Samir Nasri refuted these claims.
According to Gerard Romero, a Spanish journalist, the Argentina international will be forced to retire permanently due to a heart condition. Due to breathing issues, Aguero was forced to leave Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Alaves earlier this month. Aguero was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, forcing him to miss the rest of the season.
Following Romero’s claims, Aguero denied any intention of retiring.
“Given the rumors, I can say that I am following the club’s doctors’ orders, performing tests and treatments, and checking my progress within 90 days.” “I’m always upbeat,” he tweeted.
Xavi, Aguero’s Barcelona coach, also dismissed Romero’s claims.
Xavi on Aguero’s Retirement
“About ‘Kun’ Aguero, I don’t know anything new,” Xavi told reporters after Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday evening.
“I talked to him the other day. He was at ease. What was revealed was false. We’ll have to wait and see, but we’re still hoping he’ll be able to play football again.”
Nasri on Aguero’s Retirement
However, Aguero and Xavi’s denials have been contradicted by Samir Nasri. According to the ex-France international, Aguero texted him to confirm his retirement.
“He texted me that he’s retiring,” Nasri explained. Because Aguero’s retirement has not been confirmed, we can assume that his condition will be reassessed after 90 days.
He joined Barcelona from Manchester City in the summer but has played little due to injury and illness.
