After meeting in the mid-1950s, when Luther’s mother was a teenager, his parents wed in 1959. Candy, his mother, was a street prostitute.

She began working as her husband’s prostitute shortly after they met, though it is unknown if she was already in the profession or if her husband coerced her to do so.

In early August 1969, members of the Manson Family committed homicides in Los Angeles. They were convicted of murdering Sharon Tate and four people in her house on August 8 and 9, 1969, as well as Leno and Rosemary LaBianca the following day.

Tex Watson and three other family members allegedly carried out the Tate-LaBianca killings on Charles’ command.

Although it was ultimately admitted in court that Charles did not directly order the murders, his acts were sufficient to sustain a conviction for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit homicide.

Several family members were held liable for more acts of violence, thefts, and crimes, including Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme’s attempted assassination of President Gerald Ford in Sacramento.

In his book, Hippie Cult Leader, true crime author James Buddy Day stated that Mille shot and murdered Bernard Crowe, a heroin dealer, despite the widespread belief that Milles had never attempted or committed an assassination. Crowe, however, did not pass away.

On April 22, 1971, he was transferred from Los Angeles County to state prison on seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of murder conspiracy in connection with the deaths of Wojciech Frykowski, Abigail Ann Folger, Sharon Tate Polanski, Steven Earl Parent, Jay Sebring, and Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.
