The couple’s trial for allegedly killing their four-week-old kid began today.
In 2021, four years after the investigation started, Leicester residents Michael Davis and Kayleigh Driver, both of Carlisle Street, were accused of murder.
They are allegedly charged with two counts of causing grievous bodily harm, causing or permitting a child to suffer serious physical harm, and causing or permitting a child’s death.
Ollie Davis, the couple’s four-week-old son who was discovered unresponsive in his crib on Saturday, October 21, 2017, is also accused.
While the matter is being tried, the two have maintained their innocence and have been granted conditional release.
The last time Driver and Davis were in court was in May 2022 before Timothy Spencer QC at Leicester Crown Court.
They only spoke to confirm their names during the brief exchange as the judge heard from the couple’s lawyers about the events leading up to the trial, which was originally planned for October 4 of last year.
More than five years after Ollie’s passing, the complete trial is set to begin at Leicester Crown Court today. 34 witnesses are expected to participate, and it might last up to six weeks.
